OUR STORY

Pigment International® is a Black woman founded and led multi-media platform reporting on the art, people, issues, trends, and events shaping Black contemporary art and examining the linkages connecting historical and contemporary Black art. Founded in 2018 in Chicago, Pigment serves as a connector within our community of Black creators, collectors, curators, investors, and other stakeholders.  We are conveners, bringing together the Black art ecosystem for inspiring, cross generational dialogue. We are the publishers of Pigment Magazine and founders of Black Fine Art Month®.  At Pigment International we tell stories!

Pigment International was created because we believe in the symbiotic relationships between the artist, the curator and the collector. Their stories are a ‘collective’ designed to showcase the Black contribution to the art world.

We write about artists’ motivations and how their love of Black culture inspired them to create their work. At Pigment what we know for sure is that our art tells our stories.  From the messages sewn into quilts to help guide runaways; to primitive folk art created by slaves, to works that tout our cultural significance and celebrate our sheros and heroes. We at Pigment know that while Black art may be trending, it has and never will be trendy.

OUR WORK

In 2018, when we founded Pigment International it was with the firm belief that storytelling about Black art mattered.  We believed that we needed to tell the story of the Black art ecosystem - the artists, collectors, curators and hustling entrepreneurs that make it work.

And here we are seven years later and that investment in Black art storytelling is manifesting in a myriad of opportunities for the Black artists, gallerists and others we’ve been fortunate to have joined us on this journey.

Our storytelling is an investment in the Black art ecosystem you can’t afford to miss.
